Galeb Brothers Springwood at the QBJJC Gold Coast Open
Competition day is always an exciting opportunity to put the work from the mats into practice, and our Galeb Brothers Springwood team showed up ready to test themselves at the QBJJC Gold Coast Open.
With six of our students competing across the junior and adult divisions, it was a great day of hard-fought matches, valuable experience and plenty of support from teammates, coaches and families. Our Springwood team came away with 9 medals across Gi and No-Gi, making it a competition to be proud of.
Our Juniors
Vincent had a fantastic competition, taking home Gold in Gi 🥇 before returning to the mats for No-Gi, where he secured Bronze 🥉. Competing in multiple divisions takes plenty of energy and focus, and Vincent did a great job stepping up and putting his training into action.
Archie also had a strong day, finishing with Gold in Gi 🥇. A great result and a reflection of the work Archie has been putting in during training.
Agam fought his way to Silver in Gi 🥈, gaining valuable competition experience along the way. Every match provides an opportunity to learn, adapt and come back to training with something new to work on.
Our Adults
Our adult competitors also put in some great performances throughout the day.
Jaydee had an impressive competition, taking home Gold 🥇 and Silver 🥈 across the Gi divisions. Competing multiple times throughout the day is a challenge in itself, and Jaydee showed great determination and composure each time he stepped onto the mat.
Jannali also had a standout performance, competing up a weight category and still coming away with two Silver medals 🥈🥈. Stepping into a heavier division is a challenge, making her results an achievement worth celebrating.
Shane put in a strong performance in his Gi division, finishing with Silver 🥈 after battling through his matches and putting his training to the test.
More Than the Medals
While the medals are certainly something to celebrate, competition is about much more than what ends up on the podium.
Stepping into a competition environment gives our team the opportunity to test their techniques against different styles, manage the nerves and pressure that come with competing, and learn what areas of their game they can continue to develop.
It also highlights the importance of the work that happens outside of competition day. Every class, every round, every difficult training session and every time our students choose to keep showing up all contributes to moments like these.
A huge congratulations to Vincent, Archie, Agam, Jaydee, Jannali and Shane on your performances at the QBJJC Gold Coast Open. We are so proud of the effort, courage and commitment you showed on the mats, and we’re excited to see how you continue to build from this experience.
And of course, a big thank you to all the coaches, teammates, friends and families who came along to support our competitors throughout the day. Having a team behind you makes competition day even more special.
Keep showing up. Keep putting in the work. Keep growing.
Let’s go, Springwood! 🥋🔥
